"That Color Looks Great on You!"

Wouldn't all women like to hear the above compliment more often!

The colors we wear can either flatter and brighten us however, they can also make us look tired or washed out.  But it's not always easy to choose the best colors that create a "wow" factor for us.

A woman's skin tone plays a large part in determining which apparel colors will look best on her.  Skin tones can be grouped into three categories:  warm, cool, and neutral.  The majority of women have either a warm or cool skin tone.

Two suggestions for determining your skin tone:  First, look at the veins in your wrist.  If the veins appear blue or purple, you have a cool tone.  If they look green or have a yellow cast, then you have a warm tone.  Alternatively, hold a piece of white paper up to your face and compare how your skin looks in contrast to the paper.  If your skin looks yellowish, greenish, or light brown, then you likely have a warm skin tone.  If your skin looks pink, rosy, or blue, then you likely have a cool skin tone.  As a general rule, warmer skin tones have a greenish or yellowish/golden undertone, while cooler skin tones have a bluish undertone.

So, what colors work best with the different skin tones?  According to InStyle:

If you have Warm Skin Tones:
Your go-to colors in the warm color family:  Oranges, reds, golden yellow, amber, honey, gold.
Your go-to-colors in the cool color family:  Warmer greens and blues like olive, deeper turquoise,          green moss, fern, pesto, red purples (magenta and orchid shades).
Colors that are tough for you:  Icy shades, jeweled tones (amethyst, sapphire, ruby).

If you have Cool Skin Tones:
Your go-to colors in the cool color family:  Bright blue, royal blue, sapphire, emerald, amethyst, deep purples, lavender.
Your go-to colors in the warm color family:  Shocking pink (versus hot pink, which is warm), cerise, ruby, bright rose.
Colors that are tough for you:  Oranges and yellows.

Additionally, TheList notes:  "There's a handful of colors that will look great on any skin tone because they provide a perfect balance of warm and cool that won't clash with your skin.  Pure white goes great with everyone's skin.  Light blush pink brightens any skin tone and brings out the natural glow of your face.  Teal with a perfect mix of blue and green can be worn by anyone and is a great summer or winter shade.  If you want to go dark, try eggplant purple, which acts like a neutral and accentuates your skin without overpowering it."

And of course, numerous websites say that black is the color that shows up most in women's closets because of its versatility!
