DENIM DELIGHTS

Has it really been that long? Denim jeans came into "fashion" way back in 1871.  Yes, jeans have been around for almost 150 years!  They were invented by Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss in California during the Gold Rush.  Called "overalls" early on, Strauss and Davis came up with the idea of attaching metal rivets at various points of strain on the denim work garments.  Over the years they became known as 501s and then the more generic blue jeans.
Jeans began taking off in the mid-1950s, helped by several movies that had the leading men and women wearing them:  James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause, Marlon Brando in The Wild One and Marilyn Monroe in River of No Return.  Then came the Hippie Generation with their ubiquitous bell-bottom jeans.  There was no stopping the trend after that!  In 2000, Time magazine named Levi's 501s the "Fashion Item of the 20th Century."

Consumer interest in jeans over the years has waxed and waned. Earlier in this decade, demand for jeans took a tumble as shoppers turned instead to the more comfortable stretchy styles of activewear and yoga pants. But over the last year or two, sales of jeans have been revived.  Luxury labels are reportly helping demand - many are introducing new jean fabrics, fibers and styles that are cutting into sales of activewear.

Today, tight-fitting "jeggings" are one of the most in-demand styles out there.  Fibers such as elastane, spandex and lyocell have been added to today's jeans to help them hug the body better.  CoCo Couture has a fabulous pair of skinny white jeans from the American-made Principle brand that contain just the right amount of elastane to make them eye-catching!

Ripped jean also are popular - although this trend really has been around for a while:  This 1977 picture of punk rockers The Ramones shows the group in their signature look.

CoCo Couture has several styles of jeans with frayed hems or cuts in the fabric that are far more attractive than anything those guys ever wore!  We carry great looking styles from both Principle and Judy Blue.  Principle has skinny frayed-hem jeans, while the jeans below from Judy Blue have more of a straight-leg fit and are cuffed.
